Your Highness, Thor, Date Night

Another few days of movie magic!
Since my older sister said how amazing this film was, I was expecting nothing short, but somehow.. it DID fall short. I guess it's possibly that I'm not a big fan of superhero movies, but I really don't think Thor was all it was cracked up to be. Non-original storyline but I thought the ending was too cliche. That was the one thing that I definitely did like about it. I would suggest this if you love superhero films but if you can relate to any of my other critiques, then I would suggest waiting till it goes to the discount theaters.

Ahh here we are again with Natalie Portman! To be honest, I expected a lot more to come out of this film however I did exempt the fact of Danny Mcbride being the lead role. I just adore James Franco I guess! But dang.. just all around crude. Some of it wasn't clever.. just straight up crude. And of course Danny Mcbride is still going along with the career as being the guy who is incredibly full of himself which is complete turn off for me. I really did love how James Franco and Zooey Deschanel were a couple! How adorable! I'd suggest waiting it out for this one in the discount theaters as well. Or better yet, a Netflix DVD :)

What a cute funny movie! I would even call it family friendly. Hardly vulgar like you may expect from comedians such as Tina Fey and Steve Carell, but definitely family friendly with children 12 and up! And I really loved how it all came together at the end. Steve Carell was such a sweetie! I hope I end up having a marriage like this one :)

A Bridesmaid's Second Hangover in Sin City

The past two days were filled with hilarious and interesting films. Lets get started!
What can I say? This film was extra hilarious! It was almost a complete and total replica of the first film, except it's in Bangkok which instantly makes you even MORE terrified about what instances they went through while they were completely smashed. Instead of trying to find Phil, they're trying to find Stu's new brother-in-law to be, as well as a monkey being replaced by the lone baby from the first film. If you liked the first film, you'll love the second. Plain and simple. I cannot wait to see it again!

Yet another hilarious new comedy! Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig are phenomenal! Every scene was filled with something absolutely hilarious and I couldn't help but have my eyes glued to the screen the entire film. And I loved the new comedic lady faces I saw in this film. This film is pretty freakin vulgar so watch out, but for me, it was outrageously funny. KUDOS!

I'm all for weird comic book films but this was reeeeally out there. I honestly didn't really like it. It kept me watching with the interesting cinematography take on the graphic novel but other then that, I wasn't very impressed. The screenplay was kind of all over the place. It brings you back to all the characters in the ending but still a little too loose for my liking.

Pirates, Spies, Living Wakes, Hobbits, and Wizards

I have been watching movies like nothing else lately! Five films in the past two days!
I honestly wasn't expecting much from this film considering its a FOURTH movie to a series of films, as well as making judgments by the last two Pirates films. Just too long and stretched out, but I was definitely wrong about this film. It was definitely more like the first film but with a different storyline. This time, discussing the Fountain of Youth and not The Black Pearl. If you liked the first film, give the fourth one a chance! You'll like it :)

Projectionist Grade: A-

I wasn't expecting much from this film either, however I was a bit pleasantly surprised to find that the storyline had more depth then I had expected. It was pretty well done but it was still another "Angelina Jolie" film if you get what I'm saying. A solid decent film though.

Projectionist Grade: B

This one was definitely strange. Not necessarily my cup of tea when it comes to black comedies. Parts of this film were more of a chuckle and not necessarily a good solid laugh. The only reason I decided to watch this film because Jesse Eisenberg was in it and if you know me at all, you know I adore him as an actor! Watch this film if you like weird dark humor!

Projectionist Grade: B-

I had to put this one in the other night! Tolkien's masterpiece of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit is simply stunning within the eyes of Peter Jackson! Love love love it! There's really nothing more to be said <3

This sixth installment of the Harry Potter series is not as spot on with the book as some of the other films were but still gets the point across to Harry Potter film lovers. Not necessarily to fans of the book but still a great watch. I just love Harry Potter in general. It makes all things stressful leave me and intertwines me into Hogwarts right with Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

Let Me In, Easily and Limitlessly

During my trip away from home for a few days, I spent some time with my lovely boyfriend Joey for his 20th birthday. While some of his friends were over, enjoying some cake, Joey's mom turned on a recently released film that has a different take on The Scarlet Letter
When I first watched this film back when it was still in theaters, I was expecting a lot from this film since I am a really big fan of Emma Stone as an actress, however it was not as funny as I would have liked for it to be. However, Emma's performance was still witty and hilarious, I think I over-anticipated this film a bit. It was still a solid teen comedy film for me though! I would recommend it for a bit of a good laugh :)

Yesterday I had just gotten back from being out of town for a couple of days and decided to watch a movie with each of my sisters. Rachel was first with a movie at my theater :)
This film definitely had me drawn into the story more then I thought I would be going into watching it but there were still some unanswered questions I was asking after the film was over, which is one of the more annoying things about a movie in my opinion. Bradley Cooper portrayed his character really well but I still cannot get away from the unanswered questions. Still a good solid watch though.

After me and Rachel got back from Limitless, me and my other sister Sheridan decided to watch a Netflix movie I got in the mail, which was more on the gory suspense side.

I honestly did not know what to think of this film going in as a first time viewer but was of course interested at the fact that this young girl "needed blood to live." The outcome of the story seemed a bit strange and demented but of course that was expected, I just did not know how it would all come together. If you like a little bit of depth to your horror, then you will like this film. A bit on the strange and crazy side of a vampire story but definitely a different take and not cliche in the slightest. Overall, I enjoyed watching it.

The Other Blue Valentine

Just watched some DVDs at home last night and the night before cuddled up on the couch by myself and chose to watch a couple of 2010 films that I never got the chance to watch before they went to selling in stores.
This one I honestly wanted to laugh at and be impressed by but I maybe laughed three times the entire movie. It's definitely not your typical Will Ferrell film though. He takes on a different kind of humor. Maybe I didn't find it amusing because of that but I really don't think thats the case. And I'm also a really big Mark Wahlberg fan and I figured he would be really funny in this but.. meh. This movie was just OKAY for me.

Blue Valentine was a really beautifully done film. Although incredibly sad, this film probably moved me more then any other love story I've seen in a while. The Adjustment Bureau was good for all fans of less sexual intercourse and more action scenes but this film was definitely RATED R. There's a lot of sexual intercourse. Almost enough for someone to turn it off. I even fast forwarded a little bit through one scene but it was still a really well done film, just don't let anyone under the age of 18 or 19 watch it. I heard a rumor from one of my managers at the movie theater that the rating was almost X because of all of the sex scenes. A few Oscar recognitions were made for this film as well. Really well done.

The Fifth Conviction

This week I watched two movies that I would like to discuss with you. OF COURSE. First is one of robbery and fast cars. The next is of a man convicted of a crime that he did not commit and what his sister does to get him out of prison.
This film I went to see at my little sister's theater with my good friend Megan! It was really awesome getting to hang with her again. Out of all the other fast and the furious films, I still like Tokyo Drift the best but it seems like this one had a bit more depth and a better plot to it. If you like the Fast and the Furious movies, you'll enjoy this one just as much.

Projectionist Grade: B

If you have ever seen the trailer on this film, you know how intense it looks and it was even more intense then I had anticipated. I thought of it to be very well put together and had a solid ending which instantly wins me over. Justice was made in this film which makes it even more successful. I really enjoyed the flashbacks of happenings with her and her brother when they were younger and all of the things that they had went through together. It definitely reminded me of the bond I have between me and my two sisters. Either way, good law film! Watch it.

Adjustments and Shakespeare!

These next two movies are the most recent ones I've seen. The first film was one that my boyfriend purchase for me that I have never seen but thought that I might enjoy and the second film I watched with my little sister last night at my theater!

What a beautiful movie this was. All over the DVD box were the words ACADEMY AWARDS so you know it'll be a solid film at the very least. And I was surprised at all the famous names in this movie and how lovely it was to see something fictional intertwined with historic events and have it come out on top, which to me is not a very easy thing to do. Well done!

This next film is filled with love just as much as the first film in this post.
This movie was soooo well put together. I was really surprised at this movie considering my interest level for this film was really low to begin with but high enough to go see it in my theater for free. And if you couldn't catch on to the little tidbits given in the trailer, it most definitely is a love story. I wouldn't consider it a chick flick but definitely a love story, which strikes my interest more then your regulation chick flick does. Either way, it had me pulled into the story the entire time, and had me on the edge of my seat wanting more which is true success when it comes to film, in my opinion. It's most definitely a must see!

The Master of Disguise is Taking Me Home Tonight

Yet another post that includes an old favorite and a new love! Both awesome films so lets get started!
DANA CARVEY. Nuff said. If anyone knows comedy, it's this guy. I honestly think this film is really underrated when it comes to this sort of comedy, which of course I absolutely LOVE. I live my life on goofy humor and movies like these. Laughter is the best medicine so if you need a good laugh, go watch this movie!

Projectionist Grade: A-

This next film I went and watched with my friend Angela at the discount theater where I work. That evening I just kind of felt like getting out and me and Angela never usually get to hang so I invited her along for some enjoyment from the era of the 80's!

Ahh Anna Faris and Topher Grace! What a dynamic bundle of epic comedy! Unfortunately this film didn't do so well in the first run theaters but I think that's mainly just because it wasn't commercialized well enough. I myself was not expecting much out of it because of it coming to my theater so quickly. But what a fun film! I was laughing most of the time and it kind of reminded me of an 80's version of Superbad which is of course my FAVORITE MOVIE EVER. If you haven't seen this, go watch it!

The Company Men Making Bubbles in the Water

One particular movie from this post is a favorite of mine that I had not purchased yet while another is a new film that proves exactly why 2011 could be great for movie magic! Lets start with the new favorite and finish it out with the new love!
If you haven't seen this film, then I will let you in on a little secret - IT'S A LOVE STORY. Definitely not a chick flick but a love story nonetheless. It's bubble boy's first journey outside his room and it's to stop the love of his life from marrying the biggest jerk ever! And what's so humorous is the people he meets along the way. Zach Galifianakis just to name one! Go watch this movie!

Projectionist Grade: A-

Now this newer film, I watched in Sherman with my boyfriend's lovely mother. It was definitely a spur of the moment get together/date but absolutely wonderful! And of course this beautiful movie was involved:
For the past few months I was honestly worried about 2011 and what sort of movie fiascoes it might bring upon a movie lovers world, but because of this film, I no longer worry. What a surprise star quality that Robert Pattinson has! Playing two key parts in HUGE films such as Edward Cullen in the Twilight Saga and Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter series (he was Cedric first FYI!) can really take a toll on someones acting career and he definitely has me wanting to see him in more films to come. And of course Reese Witherspoon was beautiful and Christoph Waltz, what a jerk! Haha but this film was really well put together. Definitely on my list to purchase.

Projectionist Grade: A

There were an overload of movies coming in at my theater so I got to preview one in particular that I have been wanting to see!
This Affleck film was pretty well done but lost me a bit at times during the film. I would think of it to be a really great idea for a film but it's not for everyone. If you're not super into filmmaking then I wouldn't necessarily suggest this film, especially since most average people who watch movies need something to keep their attention, when for me, I'd watch any film. lol

Screaming Number Four

Lately I have been slacking on my film critiques but I plan to make it up with a few posts with what movies I have been watching the past month or so. To start, here is a film filled with action, love, and science fiction!
I Am Number Four is the story of one particular kid who has been on the run his entire life and not knowing all of the reasons as to why he is being protected and guarded day and night. As he grew older, he became aware of his powers and how strong he is in comparison to the many that want him dead. Of course its based on a novel, which I intend to read eventually and I was incredibly surprised that this film is a DISNEY film. I didn't even know this until a few weeks after I had watched it. I didn't expect greatness from it but that's really what I got. The ending could have been spruced up a little bit better but overall a great movie. Go see it!

Projectionist Grade: A-

This next film also has many to do with the number FOUR
Scream 4. Of course we all know the story and the humor that goes along with these films but the twist ending in this one was rather eye opening for me. Definitely was unexpected and of course the little humorous tidbits at the beginning of the film were rather enjoyable. If you like the first three, you will definitely like this one.
